  • From Eyal at 09/05/2013 09:44
    • What mode of POE does it use? (A or B)
my PSE switch is working in MODE A only , will it work?
    • Hello Eyal,
We don't have this detail from the manufacturer (HikVision), so can only assume that it will not be a problem as based upon our experience with a wide number of user scenarios we have not encountered any problems ...

    • Hi, Can you clear something up for me please. I am looking to install this in an outbuilding but do not want to run wires between buildings. Can i provide a standard 12dc to this camera then run an ethernet cable from the camera to a powerline adapter and operate the camera from inside the house. Thanks
    • Yes :-)

  • From Alistair at 26/04/2013 10:26
    • Further to last question:

So what voltage should the POE run at? 48V or 12V?

      Thanks
    • Hello Alistair,
POE operates at a carrier voltage of between 37 and 57 volts (as laid down by the IEEE 802.3af standard).
POE enabled devices such as IP cameras and VOIP phones are ready to accept this voltage at the RJ45 network connector, then the device's internal electronics adapt the presented voltage to whatever the device needs to operate.
POE uses the spare cores in the network cable that are not used for data transmission.
You can use POE to a nominal maximum cable length of 100m.
A single-port POE injector, or network switch with POE, will send the correct voltage for POE (37-57 volts) NB - before doing so the powering device will check to see that a POE-ready device is connected at the far end of the cable.
      Hope that helps ...

  • From Alistair at 25/04/2013 08:53
    • What mode of POE does it use? (A or B)
The manual states a voltage of 12-24V which is not in the normal POE range of 48-52V.

Please clarify or add to the spec sheet what the power supply requirements are.

      Thanks
    • Hello Alistair,
You can either connect a separate power supply (not provided) to the DC barrel plug and provide 12 volts DC, or use standard PoE (via the network/RJ45 connector).

  • From Tom Davies at 18/04/2013 16:04
    • Does this camera need a PoE splitter if i intend to power from a PoE capable switch, or can the power jack be ignored if there is power coming down the network cable?
    • Hello Tom,
This camera is POE-ready, so it does not need a POE splitter, simply connect a network cable with POE power added at the source end (POE switch or single-port POE injector).
Just ignore / don't use the separate power connector.
