Questions on Vivotek IP7330 Network IR Bullet Camera

  • From lee at 02/03/2010 23:31
    • sorry can you tell me if this camera can be monitored from my laptop whilst away on holiday
    • Hi Lee,

Yes, all IP cameras can be accessed from the internet.
You need to install and add the camera to your home/office network (under your router). Then configure Port Forwarding in your router to allow the camera to be viewed from the internet (through the router). Check www.portforward.com for useful information on how to configure most routers.
The next issue that typically arises is that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides you with a dynamic IP address, which means that your home/office router's address on the web keeps changing (its web IP address). You can overcome this by signing-up for a free service with www.dyndns.com - using this service your router constantly updates dyndns with its latest web IP address and you are able to find your home/office via a friendly url which you register with them e.g. leeshome.dyndns.tv could be set up to always take you to your home router and therefore your IP Camera.

      Hope that helps ...

    • Does this come with a mount? If not how do I get one pls?
    • Hi Bob,
Just uploaded a series of unboxing photos to show what is supplied with the camera, hopefully that answers your query as you can now see the included camera bracket.
  • From Ian at 13/12/2009 20:55
    • Hi, I have a windows home server set up, will the software work on it? Thanks
    • Hi Ian, I think so, but could not actually find any statement to confirm so. Please feel free to take advantage of our 'Buy & Try' offer and be the first to prove it with home server.
  • From steve at 09/11/2009 21:09
    • hi i'm looking to use this camera for commercial and domestic properties, what else would i need for the camera to work from a base site to monitor peoples properties from distance?
    • All Vivotek cameras ship with their free ST7501 CCTV recording software, you'll find a separate product page for the software in our webshop where you can download a datasheet and learn all about that.
The software needs to be installed on a PC on the same local network as the cameras and left running 24hrs a day to record from them.
You can then install a client version of the software on your laptop or other remote PCs to allow you to remotely access the recording software via the web to access your cameras and recordings at the camera site.

If you'd prefer not to run software on a PC then the QNAP Network Video Recorders are very good as dedicated network appliances for recording IP cameras - no need to leave a PC running at the camera site, but you still have the ability to access the QNAP NVR, your cameras and recordings from any other site.

Finally, for ease of installation of the Vivotek 7330 cameras you might like to consider Power Over Ethernet (POE) injectors, or a POE switch. This allows you to run just a single Cat5 cable to each camera for power and video data.

      Hope that helps.

    • would this camera do as a webcam to show on my website as it needs to be mounted external
    • Yes. Please see Vivotek's FAQ web page for further information on this and example scripts to use on your web page:

  • From Imran at 23/09/2009 09:18
    • What POE injector would you recommend for use with this IP camera?
    • For any single IP camera POE supply the Level One POI-2000 is a good solution.
If you can feed up to four network cameras from a single point then the Planet POE-400 injector hub offers great value in a really compact package.
