Questions on Y-Cam YCK002 Knight Wireless Indoor IP Camera

  • From James at 20/03/2012 23:16
    • Can you connect an external microphone? Most of the IP cameras with in built microphones suffer from terrible hissing.
    • Sorry no, you cannot connect an external microphone to this Y-cam camera.

    • Hi,

I intend to use the YCK002 with an out door case to monitor the front of my house.

I have a Mac, I understand that this unit saves the video to the micro card in the unit.

Is there anyway that it could be configured so that it saves it directly to my online 'Mobile Me' account?

Also when selecting zones in the software you can you can set more than one zone area on a single camera?

      Hope you can help.

      Kind Regards
      Bob
    • Hello Bob,

You can choose to record to a micro-SD card in the camera, or to your PC/Mac using Y-Cam's MultiLive s/ware (Windows only / Mac version planned), or ftp to another drive or web space/server.
I'm not sure if you can save to your 'Mobile Me' account, it simply depends on whether you are able to set that as a route/destination for the camera to write to e.g. if you can make it behave like a mapped drive for instance.

You can set up to four detection zones for each camera, you can then adjust the size of the detection window, the threshold and sensitivity.
Threshold = Set the threshold bar to the amount of motion required to trigger the alarm.
Sensitivity = Set the measurable difference between two sequential images that would indicate motion.

You can also schedule when motion detection is active i.e. what days/what times or continuously.

      Hope that helps ...

    • Hi how is this unit powered?
    • Hi Jules,

If you take a quick look at the product unboxing photos that we added to the sister product to this camera Y-cam Black SD (only difference is the colour of the plastic) you'll see a photo of a mains plug transformer and lead.

NB Y-cam have now standardised on white mains plug transformers and leads for all their new model cameras. I'm told that this was due to customer demand and white mains plugs and leads being better suited to home and office environments.

We'll try to get some updated product photos uploaded soon ...

    • I would like to operate this camera from a Linux server. Is it compatible with Fedora 10? If not, can you recommend an alternative? Thanks.
    • Hi Peter,

Y-cams are linux compatible, although I don't know about Fedora 10 specifically.

If you take a look at the ZoneMinder website (ZoneMinder produce CCTV recording software for linux) you'll find plenty of information about using Y-cams with linux systems.

      Hope that helps ...

  • From Brian at 10/03/2010 00:24
    • Hello
I have a 3G Mobile Internet connection which has a 3GB data transfer limit, so I would mostly need to connect and control the Camera from my Laptop Wireless LAN directly. Will the software connect and work off-line using my computers Wireless LAN?

    • Hi Brian,

If you mean can you leave your laptop wirelessly connected to your Y-cam with the Y-cam recording software left running and recording on your laptop (without using an internet connection), then Yes.
Bear in mind that you will need to leave your laptop running 24/7.
You might want to consider the Y-cam Knight SD and configure it to record to the built-in micro-SD card, you can then use your laptop to access the recordings on the micro-SD card, but will not need to leave your laptop running all the time.

      Hope that helps ...
