Mobotix at IFSEC 2009

Last week I spent a couple of days out of the office at the International Fire & SECurity (IFSEC) show at the NEC in Birmingham.

This was my tenth year of visiting IFSEC, and although it looked a little different this year (new halls and visitor numbers down a little) I’m pleased to report that the show is still going strong.

I’ve only had time so far to upload some images and a few notes to our Picasa web album, but rest assured that as usual much was learned and there’s more to say.

Click here to see our snapshot view of IFSEC 2009, and rest assured that we’ll add more detailed blog articles over the next few days.

If you went to IFSEC we’d be happy for you to add your thoughts on this year’s show in the comments below …

IFSEC – one to watch – a-vigil-on

I already promote and sell their products – so I guess that I am biased?

I first met Avigilon’s UK Rep (Robin Hughes) and had a full demo of their product range about nine months ago. The performance of their cameras wowed me at that time, and I have been a champion of their products ever since.

At IFSEC this year I had my first opportunity to meet the guys over from HQ in Canada. I spent some time with them getting up-to-speed and looking forward to future capabilities (can’t say too much about those just yet, but I’ll let you know as soon as I can).

For now, I just want to reiterate what great products these are, and I can now say from first-hand experience that there’s a great team behind them.

They have a collective background in medical and forensic imaging, and they have worked hard (and relatively quickly) to get the science right!

They understand the importance of light, lenses, colour rendition & image resolution. They have developed a lossless recording solution which means that when you need to review video evidence you can see all of the goodness that the camera was able to capture.

It is plain to see that they share a collective passion in achieving great images.

They have already delivered camera products ranging from 1 to 16 Megapixels!

They can already demonstrate picking faces from crowds in playback. There has been a lot of interest from many authorities and agencies.

I am certain that we’ll be seeing many more good things from the team at Avigilon,

Watch this space!

IFSEC 2008

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I’ve spent the last two days at the annual International Fire and SECurity (IFSEC) show in Birmingham.

I’m an old hand at it, having visited many times before. This year was definitely the year for launching H.264 video compression and Megapixel cameras.

Each year has its unofficial theme, in previous years it has been video analytics, MPEG4 compression, the DVR boom, day/night switching …….

Caveat emptor (or buyer beware) should be writ large above these new launches. Often the products you are shown are simply not actually available, in the worst cases they are still not available when IFSEC comes around in the following year. So, beware the vapour ware!!!

Equally worrying as you trawl the stands are the oft-heard quotes from the staff “I only saw this for the first time yesterday” / “we only finished the software on Sunday” / “the chap that can demonstrate that has just gone to lunch, can you come back later?”.

IFSEC remains a unique opportunity to see all the security market manufacturers side-by-side, and remains a must-see show for anybody in the business of selecting and specifying equipment.

More later ……
