Cameras dropping out on NVR view

Hi All,

I installed a IP CCTV system at home a few years ago, it was a basic system, 3 IP cameras 3mp and a separate power to each camera from my home network, I viewed and recorded the cameras from my PC to a 4TB HDD using ispyconnect, all was working great.

I have since added more cameras and my broadband speed has taken a hit due to bandwidth to and from my computer and I was losing cameras during the day, they would intermittently drop out and I wouldn’t see them in the app/viewer, obviously not quite what I wanted.

So, I took the plunge and purchased two 8 port POE switches with 2 uplink ports from eBay, not much information on them but what there is, I have written below.

10 Standard POE Switch
S/N: POESWT-8CH
DATA: 1236POWER SUPPLY:12 + 36
Specification: 8POE+2UPLINK 10/100M
Power Supply Port: 1-8 Port for POE Power Supply
1-8 Port Support Extended the Extended Mode
Power Specification: DC52V 2.3A 120W

All the cameras now go into the POE switches and the Uplinks are used to link the two together with cat6 cable (10meters) each camera has its own cat 5e cable (home made) I have put new plugs on just to try and confirm its not a cable issue.
3 x 3mp none POE
2 x 2mp none POE
3 x 3mp POE
2 x 5mp POE

One of the uplink ports is used to connect the NVP cat 6 (1meter) the other is used to connect to my Sky Home Hub via a 10/100/1000 switch (the Sky does have 2 RJ45 connections but its just a HUB not a switch so I have just run one cable to the 10/100/1000 switch and then gone from there, so my home network is almost isolated from the CCTV network until it gets to the Sky HUB.

The NVR is from Encam, it’s a 16 channel NVR sold bare, with no HDD, I will use my old 4TB when I get up and running, for now I am using a 500GB HDD, just for testing
The NVR specifications are at the end of this post:-

The problems I am getting is that the IP cameras are still dropping out, the cable to each is cat 5e and no run is longer that 25meters, so all I can think is that I have to many cameras for my network, I have a network issue, or I have a network switch issue, how can I trouble shoot the problem, the software on the NVR looks almost identical to the Hikvision NVRs, I have replaced the rj45 plugs on both ends just to try and eliminate that, the power and connection lights on the POE switch don't seem to change state whilst I have been watching it.

Smart Technology
The smart technology allows you to view your cameras anywhere in the world live from your android or IOS device! You can also setup email notification’s to alert you if someone is on your property and set cloud backups to record footage just in case your recorder is stolen. You can also setup sharing footage over the internet.

Android or IOS viewing
Thanks to the peer to peer (P2P) technology viewing on your mobile phone or tablet is an easy process. Simply scan the onscreen QR (barcode)code to download the ap (Bitvision) from the google play store and then scan the serial number to add your system. You can now view your cameras Worldwide with the touch of a button in real time.

Motion Detection
Encam recorders allow you set up motion detection for your cameras
Set parameters (recording zones) for each camera so your motion detection is set to key areas of your property.
Adjust the sensitivity of your motion detection to avoid recording every bird or cat that passes your camera.
You can set your record time too, you can set the motion detection to only record at night time or only during work hours or alternatively just set the amount of time in seconds the footage is captured (in seconds) when the motion detection is triggered. This can save valuable space on your hard drive.

Our recorders support upto 8TB hard drives allowing for plenty of footage to be recorded (Hard Drive not supplied)

I have a similar problem to you with an EnCam DVR.
It works fine with some EnCam Cameras I bought with it. However I have 3 other Cameras which use the OnVis Protocol, One works with no problems but the other two work for about 5 or 6 minutes before the connection is dropped and then they reconnect.
I have done a bit of investigation and if I look at the Cameras via their Web pages or CMS, there are no problems when the Encam NVR is disconnected from my Network, as soon as the Encam NVR is connected then these 2 cameras drop out every few minutes.

I see I am the first to respond to your post on this Forum, did you resolve your problem.
regards

Joe
