CCTV monitor - 32" TV or rather a smaller monitor?

Hi

I am planning a 6 x camera CCTV system and am buying an 8ch DVR with 2mp cameras providing 1080p (all Hikvision)

I anticipate that the majority of my interaction with the DVR will be via desktop, tablet and mobile but obviously still want a screen somewhere centrally to view the feed at a glance.

So this is the question - does it make more sense to output the DVR display to......
  • a cheap 32" Full HD TV which are fairly inexpensive
or
  • do I spend a similar amount for a smaller Dell / Samsung 22"-24" monitor?
Pros and cons - my considerations are screen size, clarity of display and also longevity.

I imagine a monitor might endure being continually on all the time a bit better than a TV - any thoughts from the forum?

Thanks!

Hi @zedwunare

We have several demo NVR that are each connected to different brands/sizes of monitor and they have all functioned well for over a year now. (although we do not have them on 24/7)

We would definitely lean to towards a smaller, more expensive and better quality monitor over a cheap, large TV simply because the quality of the components in a cheap TV are not going to be as great and running it 24/7 it will likely be more prone to screen burn/image retention. We would recommend a quality monitor brand like ASUS or Acer and also we would recommend having a search around for specialist CCTV monitor manufacturers who develop monitors with protections against screen burn & image retention.

Thanks @Dan, I appreciate the response. I hadn't considered screen burn/retention. I'll check out monitors rather than TVs, thanks!
