Hikvision Network Camera Families and Finding the Correct Firmware

Update 6th June 2018 - HikVision reorganised their European Download Portal at the end of May AND renamed some of their camera families AND introduced new camera families. So, please follow this link to our new post on finding the latest HikVision firmware for your camera.


Hikvision offer a huge range of cameras with hundreds of variants available for purchase - it's no wonder there's confusion about which cameras are from the newest family and whether the camera you're interested in is the most up to date model available.

Each new range introduces new features and better sensors. But also, as you would expect with any manufacturer, development only continues with the current model range. Older ranges stop getting updated except for the bare minimum security updates.

With Hikvision especially, the price difference between cameras from the newest series and the cameras which they supersede is minimal so we recommend sticking to the new series for the sake of future proofing your system.

With that being said, we still get orders for R6 series cameras despite there being no benefit to buying these cameras.

-I and -K series NVR are H.265+ ready, a function only available in the newest G1 family (EasyIP 3.0) cameras, so why not utilize this?

It's important to know which family your camera comes from in order to be able to find firmware for your camera and know how old your camera is.

At the bottom of this thread we'll cover where you can find the most up to date firmware for your camera.

Hopefully this list will help you find the newest cameras on the market, or, if you already own Hikvision cameras help you figure out which family your camera belongs to.

Firmware is found at Hikvision's European Download Portal and is sectioned into subcategories by series name so it can be a struggle to find your firmware without knowing which family your camera belongs to. The below links will take you to the correct firmware folder for your camera:

• R0 Family
• R6 Family
• G1 Family (EasyIP 3.0)
• Other Families (Darkfighter/Fisheye/Panoramic etc.)

It's equally important to keep your NVR's firmware up to date!
