Hikvision have released a press release today stating that their products have been rigorously tested by independent testers and certified as safe & secure to add to your network.

Operated by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) the Cyber Essential scheme is an independently assessed accreditation which is supported by the British Government. The scheme is designed to carry out rigorous testing of internet enabled products to ensure when connected to a network they are safe, secure and do not provide a risk to devices on the rest of the network.

You can read their full press release here.

More information here on NCSC.

And here for the particulars of the NCSC's Cyber Essentials Scheme.

Yes, indeed it is.

BIG Oops by HikVision!!!

Essentially, "When we said our products had been tested, what we actually meant was (ahem) our office network's been checked":

CORRECTION:
An earlier version of the press release suggested that the Cyber Essentials Plus status relates to products and has caused some confusion. To clarify, Hikvision has been awarded ‘Cyber Essentials Plus’ accreditation, which directly relates to the security and robustness of our own infrastructure within the UK operation. It was never our intention to mislead the reader with inference that the accreditation related in any way to our products. We sincerely apologise for the unclear statement about the award.

"caused some confusion"!!!

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

An extraordinary cock-up of an initial statement!

Tried to gain trust, but instead blew their own credibility!

What a bunch of chumps.

Not really sure they understand the difference between infer and imply. Let's leave aside the fact they explicity stated it.
