Hi Folks,

I am planning to setup an ip camera overlooking the back garden. I have narrowed down to couple of options on the use-ip site; ds-2cd2t25fwd or ds-2cd2t85fwd.

2T25 is a ultra low light 2 MP and 2T85 is a 8MP HD camera. Is a high MP IP cam an overkill for setup in back garden. Any thoughts or suggestions please?

Hi,
We would normally recommend the turret cameras as our GoTo choice.
We'd only recommend those bullets if you need to see great distances in the dark e.g. the -I5 variant is for 50m and the -I8 variant is for 80m.

People very often select the 8MP models now.

With regard to light levels, please see point 7:

Thanks Phil, another query if you can help me with it. I know i don't have the specifics but is 4mm focal length suitable for a IP camera overlooking the garden. Height of the camera would be around 5m.

It depends on the width of the garden - if you look at all the back garden demo videos at our YouTube channel you'll see that most of those were captured with a 6mm lens camera - the garden is 9m wide, the camera was mounted at approx 4.5m height.

I use this very basic theory, less than 2.8 meters height = 2.8mm lens :D

2.8-6 meters = 4mm lens
