In our 1st post about Milesight VMS software we took you through how to install both VMS Lite and VMS Pro, in this 2nd post, we focus in on just VMS Lite and take you through the initial steps to set up the software after you have installed it. This will include how to add cameras to VMS Lite, how to edit them after you have added them, and finally, how to delete a camera you don't want, so let's get started with how to add a camera to VMS Lite:

Step 1: Click the Settings menu in the top left of the VMS Lite window and then click Device Settings from the drop-down

Step 2: The Device Settings window will open and you then have 2 options for adding your IP cameras -

Search Devices
Step a: Click the Search Devices button, a new window will open and the software will automatically start scanning your network for IP cameras

Step b: Select a camera from the list when the scan finishes (or click select all to select the full list) and then enter the correct username & password for each camera

Step c: Click OK to add the selected cameras
Add Devices (Manual Add)
Step a: Click the Add Devices button, a new window will open with several empty boxes

Step b: Select an adding method from the left side of the window, your options are to add via an IP address with either Milesight or ONVIF compliant cameras, via RTSP, or via P2P connection

NB: You will have to register your Milesight camera with Milesight to use P2P and P2P will only give access to the secondary stream, we would recommend just using the IP address method
Step c: Enter the IP address and other details of the camera you want to add and make sure enable box is ticked, then click OK to add the camera

And with that, you will have your cameras added to the VMS Lite software, now with the camera added to the software you may notice something is wrong with one or more of the cameras you have added or you need to change the name or grouping of a camera, well to edit any of these things you will want to:

Step 1: Click the Settings menu in the top left of the VMS Lite window and then click Device Settings from the drop-down

Step 2: Select a camera and click the Edit Device button on the Device Settings window

Step 3: Edit any of the camera's details from this menu including the cameras name, the group the camera is in, the IP address, port, and more...

NB: changing details like IP address, port, username and password from this window will NOT change the settings of the camera of the camera, it will just change how the software finds and connects to your camera (e.g. if your camera has the address 192.168.1.50 and you change it in this window to 192.168.1.55 then the software will search your network looking for a camera at that IP address, but the camera will still be at the 192.168.1.50 IP address).

If you want to actually change the cameras IP address, password, etc then you will want to go back to the Device Settings page, select the camera you want to change from the list, and then click the browser button at the top of the window (see below). This will open an Internet Explorer window to the login page of the chosen camera, you can then log in to the camera and change any camera setting you want, or if it just the IP address you want to change you can select a camera and change it address using the modify section at the bottom of the device settings window.

Once you have edited the camera and added it to the VMS Lite software, you can move on to setting up the cameras to record (which we will cover in another post). If you are not happy with a camera you have added and want to delete it from your VMS Lite software you will want to:

Step 1: Click the Settings menu in the top left of the VMS Lite window and then click Device Settings from the drop-down

Step 2: Select a camera and click the Delete Device button on the Device Settings window
