Hi Guys,
I have the NVR DS-7608NI-K2-8P and i have 2 spare ports and i have these Hikvision Analogue camera and i want to use them, so i can use all the ports, so 8 cameras, at the moment i am using 6 cameras.

What is best way of doing it, as my IP camera were just RJ45 plug and play, but i am not sure about this or i can use the below link CAT 5 to BNC Passive Video Balun Video and Power Converters - 2-Piece RG59 / RJ45 Cat5e.

Do i need to use an encoder and how do you install the Encoder and can this be fitted inside the junction box of the rear of the camera to hide the encoder and would it be powered by the cat5e cable or i need to run a cable for 12Volt.

Hi @caretaker

Unfortunately, Baluns will not convert the analog stream of the cameras into a network IP signal to connect them to an NVR.

Baluns simply allow you to send the analog signal over a network cable, but then at the other end of the cable, you need another Balun to switch it back to a COAX cable so you can connect the camera to a DVR.

To actually convert the signal from the camera you will need to use an encoder, but the issue with encoders is that they are often more expensive than the analog camera and they also often reduce/compress the resolution of the camera.

Hi Dan,
I got the Analogue camera from work and i thought i make them in good use.

so the Encoder will be too expensive and reduce the resolution from 5MP to 3MP.

I have the NVR and purchasing DVR just for the 2 cameras will work out expensive, as buying it and extra running cost of the DVR , when i am already running a NVR.

If this is the case , then i will have to give it my sister, she has the NVR Defender, but i dont know if her DVR will work with the Hikvision Analogue cameras.

Do you know Hikvision Junction box code i need to buy for these cameras DS-2CE56HOT-ITME, is it Hikvision DS-1280ZJ-XS ?

Hi Dan,
Does this camera DS-2CE56HOT-ITME have the smart detection like Line Detection, Intrusion detection and Motion Detection, as i looked for it and can not seem to find the information.

What Dvr is best to buy for these camera, as i have the 6 cameras and i will give it to my friend, so he was asking if it had smart detection on these cameras.

He will have to purchased Junction Box, DVR, as he already has the BNC cable, as he wants to replace his Defender DVR and the camera he has does not have the Smart detection and he likes the one i have and mine is NVR and the camera has the option of the smart detection like Line Detection, Intrusion detection and Motion Detection.

Many thanks

Hi @caretaker

Most analog cameras do not come with the smart events built-in because unlike IP cameras they cannot operate without being connected to a recorder and so the DVR manages all of the smart functionality.

A DVR like the DS-7208HUHI-K2/P should work for what you want, but we only work with IP cameras and NVRs so our knowledge of the analog products are limited and we would recommend speaking to Hikvision analog reseller to get their more up-to-date/accurate advice.
