Firstly, unplug all cables from the device and place it on a surface where you have plenty of space. On the back of the device there are two screws (highlighted below) that need to be removed in order to release the top cover of the system.

Unscrew both and although you do get spare screws in the devices component box, try to keep these ones in a safe place!

Now, holding the grip to the rear of the device, slide the lid off and lift upwards to release it.

Now we are inside the device, we are ready to install a HDD. As you can see, we already have one installed, so we will place a new one in the second HDD space.

Have your HDD and four flat screws (available in the devices component box) ready.

Actually putting the HDD in can be tricky. We suggest beginning by placing the HDD where it needs to be:

While holding it in place, put the device on its side and screw the two corner screws in.
Note: To make this easier it is suggested two people do this together.

Now screw the other two corner screws in and tighten all of them.

Now that the HDD is secured in place, you need to connect up the power cable to the device. You need to find the right length one.

There are multiple ones you can use and a bundle is provided inside the device.

Connect the cable that you have chosen.

Tie the bundle of unused cables neatly into the device.

Now we need to connect a sata cable from the HDD to the motherboard. Again, you will find different length cables in the components box that came with the device. For this demonstration we have chosen the smallest cable on available.

We had to reconfigure our existing cables to make them all fit so we moved the cable from the far left slot to the second from the right slot.

Now connect the cable into an available slot.

Connect the other side of the sata cable to the HDD.

Ensure that all cables and the HDD are secure before placing the lid back on the device and putting the screw back in. Reconnect all the cables to the rear of the device.

At this point, formatting is a lot easier if you have set the Set-Up Wizard to start whenever you boot up your HikVision device. When you turn on the device it will beep multiple times to let you know that you have a HDD that isn’t formatted. Follow the set up wizard until you reach the HDD page. On this page, select the HDD(s) that you would like to format and click the ‘Init’ button.

DSC09812-300x200.jpg
You will then be prompted as to whether or not you would like to continue, click 'OK'.

The HDD will start to format.

Your HDD is now formatted and ready to use.

If you don’t have the start up wizard you need to format the HDD using a different method. Once your device has booted up, right-click the screen and click ‘Menu’. You will then be prompted to login. Once you have logged in, the Main Menu will show. Click ‘HDD’. On this page you can view your HDDs. From here it is the same process as described above. Select the HDD you would like to format and click the ‘Init’ button. You will be prompted as to whether or not you would like to continue; click 'OK’. Once your HDD is formatted it is ready to use.
