How to set up a DS7708NI-SP

What is the DS-7708NI?
The Hikvision DS-7708NI-SP is an embedded network video recorder that can manage up to 8 cameras, with an easy-to-use interface that can be viewed from either a local monitor or internet browser. The device has 8 PoE slots on the rear, allowing cameras to be connected directly to the device. This device is specifically designed for Hikvison cameras. The 7708NI can support up to 6TB of storage capacity over 2 hard drive spaces.

To Set-Up the DS7708NI:

Firstly, connect your AC power adaptor,VGA cable, Ethernet cable and USB mouse to the device. Also connect any cameras you wish to use to the PoE ports at the back.

Now power on the device and allow it to start-up.
Note: This may take some time on first boot-up.

The first screen that will appear will be the Set-Up Wizard. Now click 'Next'.

On the next page you can change the password or keep it as default (which is '12345'), as we will for the purposes of this demo. If you do wish to change your password, make sure the ‘New Admin Password’ is checked and type in and confirm your new password. Now click the 'Next' button.

The following screen allows you to set the date, time and format. Click the 'Next' button.

Here you can change your IP setting but the defaults that are already set should be fine. Just double-check to make sure that they are set as you wish. Now click the 'Next' Button.

The next screen will display all available HDDs. On this screen you’ll need to initialise them; click the HDD and click the ‘Init’ button. You will be shown a prompt that tells you that all data will be removed, click 'OK' and allow the HDD to be formatted. Once this is complete click 'Next'.

You will now be on the Camera Settings page. Any cameras connected via the PoE ports will automatically connect, for any others you will have to select them from the list and click 'Add'. If the camera is not on the list, click ‘Search’ to locate it. Once you are happy that all cameras are added, click 'Next'.

The next screen gives you the option to start recording now or not. If you do wish to, click ‘Start Recording’, then choose whether you want normal (constant) recording or motion detection recording. Once you have chosen the settings for the camera, click 'OK'.

You have now successfully set up your HikVision DS7708NI and your cameras should be displaying.
