IP Address Question for NVR & Cameras

Just new to this, but was struggling at first to see NVR on my network, the instruction manual gave IP address of 192.168.1.88 for NVR but changed that to 192.168.0.88 as all other equipment in the house are on the 192.168.0.???? IP address. Was using Chrome at first then switched to Internet Explorer and all was good to access the user menu etc.

My question is... does the NVR and camera equipment need to be on a seperate 192.168.1.88 address along with the camera as 192.168.1.43 etc... or is it fine
to leave as 192.168.0.88 address?

Hi @alfa20ad

The NVR and cameras should all be on the same IP range as your LAN/router (192.168.0.xxx), the only case where the cameras will be on a different IP range would be if you connected the cameras directly to the PoE ports on the NVR as they will then be given an IP address on the NVRs subnet (usually an address like 192.168.20.xxx or 192.168.254.xxx).

Sorry to hijack this thread but if the cameras have different subnet to router devices how are you supposed to access the cameras directly from a computer that is connected to router?

Most professional CCTV manufacturers have solution along the lines of Hikvision's Virtual Host that allows you to connect to individual cameras that are directly connected to the NVRs subnet.
