Multiple cameras on one port

Hi all

I am in the process of looking to update an 22 camera analogue system to IP.

We are a large 8 storey building and with the analogue system we have coax cables running all over the building back to the DVR. We are hoping with an IP system we can group the cables to switches and have a limited number of cables running back to the NVR.

My question is - if we purchase an NVR with, say, 16 POE ports, but we don't want to have a direct link to every camera from the NVR, can we send say 8 cameras to a switch and then run one ethernet link to just one of the NVR ports (obviously not in POE mode).

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks!

Hi Jon

You would use the LAN port of the NVR for the cameras connected to any switches on the same Network/VLAN and the built in POE ports for direct connection to cameras.

Hi Jon,
You can mix & match i.e. connect some cameras directly to your NVR's camera ports and/or add other cameras to your general LAN (the NVR will find those cameras on the LAN and manage & record them). NB You cannot exceed the NVR's stated camera total e.g. 4, 8 16, 32 cameras regardless of how they are connected.
