The other wire is an optional 12VDC power connection - it's for when you aren't supplying power via PoE and need to use a separate PSU
If you're using PoE then you only need to use the ethernet connection.
You don't need to use a microSD card either - they're used as an alternative to an NVR for storing recordings, or as a short backup. You will be able to access the camera's live view without a card or NVR, but not much else!
