Problem with HIK Nvr not seeing onboard ports

Hello all
Bit of a newbie, so bear with...

16 Port NVR. 8 built-in POE ports, and a further 8 allowable using a switch.
I have 6x cameras already running on manually set ip addresses on a remote POE switch. Not using any of the on-board NVR POE ports.

I want to add a camera directly to the NVR now, but I cannot get it to see it? If I plug the camera into the above switch, it can see it using a manually set ip address.
But, when its plugged into the NVR, it cannot see it. POE monitor shows it drawing power, but it says network unavailable.

I assume I can use manually set ip addresses for the onboard NVR ports? Can't see why not.

Any ideas? Clearly something I am doing wrong, but the useless manual doesn't help.

Any suggestions?

Assuming that you are adding a Hikvision camera to your Hikvision NVR, it is best/simplest to reset the camera to inactive, then plug it into the NVR and let the NVR set it up - issue an IP address etc.
By default it will be issued with an IP address within the sub-domain range that the NVR provides, and the NVR's user name and password will be used for the camera.
