Hi
we’re thinking about a CCTV system – we’ve had a couple of quotes but I’m normally pretty good with most things so tempted to go DIY but could really do with some recommendations.

Firstly is DIY a good idea?

Secondly do you have any recommendations of kit/manufacturer? One of the installers warned me about HIK as they reckon it gets hacked a lot – is that true?

In terms of what I’m looking for/thinking of:
4 camera IP system on a detached house
2 cameras with 15m night vision, 2 with 30m – so 2 3mp and 2 5mp
Loft mounted NVR on permanent record linked wirelessly to router via extender

Quotes are coming in around £1100 plus VAT

Any input would be welcome!
thanks

DIY is fine - you will need some knowledge of your network, router, etc.

We would still recommend HikVision.
All manufacturers of network devices have some history of cyber attacks. HikVision have applied a great deal of effort and resource to strengthening their systems.

There are no wireless NVRs, so typically people use Powerline adapters to extend their network into their loft.
