Hi,

Would anyone please be able to advise me if a Synology NVR or Synology NAS is best for my home CCTV installation? The install will consist of 4 cameras. I have no need for a NAS apart from the CCTV system.

I currently have a two camera system in place and am using an NVR and two cameras that came as a complete kit. However, the NVR is quite noisy even though I have tried to dampen down the noise from its tiny vibrating internal fan by securing it on a rubber pad inside the NVR. Also, the current NVR that I have is periodically losing connectivity to the cameras so it might be sensible to replace it as part of my upgrade to a 4 camera system and attempt at noise reduction.

The two cameras I have are both 6 mega pixel PoE bullet cameras. I am not sure of the brand, I would need to dig out the box to get the make.

Any advice most appreciated.

Thx
Boily

A Synology NVR will allow you to connect a monitor.
A Synology NAS has no monitor connection.
A Synology NVR has a fixed number of camera connections.
The software / interface is essentially the same.
Personally, although I am a fan of Synology, I don't think they have perfected their NVRs yet - safer to go with a NAS.

You will need to confirm compatibility with your cameras:
