Hi IP Pros,

Would love if you could bestow your wealth of knowledge on this IP cam ignoramus.

We have two offices on different sites and don't know what the best route is?

Do we need two NVRs? Need 6 cameras (min) one outdoor (bullet) rest ideally domes.

Thanking you!

I would always recommend an NVR at site.
Record locally in the highest resolution available.
Record continuously - so you don't miss a thing - HDDs are great value per size now, and the latest CODECs e.g. h.265+ make really efficient use of them.

For an 8-camera NVR, choose either of Hikvision's 7608 models:
-K - Hikvision DS-7608NI-K2-8P | 8 Channel Network Video Recorder
-I - Hikvision DS-7608NI-I2-8P 8 Channel Network Video Recorder

The differences are explained in detail here:
HikVision NVRs - should I purchase a -I or a -K suffix NVR?
Essentially, the -I is the bettr model, and continues to receive development and updates.
If budgets don't permit you to purchase a -I model, then you won't be disappointed with a -K model - we ship lots each day!

Hi All,

New to the forum here - I'm actually looking at something similar but only need 2 cameras for now but would like to purchase a system that's future proof/can be updated however only have a budget of £600 as have moved into a new office.

For NVR (8 channel as future proofing) if I went for the K model would I lose out long term with lack of updates etc?

I would like flat faced dome camera - one will be mounted on vertical wall and one will be beneath a flat roof fascia - Is Hikvision the way to go or any good alternatives for the budget.

We will be launching a new range from a brand called Optio next week.
We believe this to be a great budget solution.
Lower cost than Hikvision.
Better performance than HiWatch/Hi-Look.
Browser-free viewer for PC and Mac.
Watch this space.

Hi Phil,

Does that work for Mobile viewing too and is it a proven brand like Hikvision?

Yes, they provide a mobile App.

It's a new brand, but with a good heritage/backing.
