Hi,

I have a DS-2CD2142FWD-I and have created two users (apart from admin), UserA and UserB.
UserA is type of "User" and has only "Remote: Live View" permission
UserB is type of "Operator" and has all permissions.

I am trying to let them get a picture from the camera through a browser using the following URL:

http://myip/ISAPI/Streaming/channels/101/picture.

The browser prompts for credentials and when I provide the admin account everything works fine. I can see the camera picture.
If I use any other account (UserA or UserB) it doesn't work. I get access denied.
Just to mention that both UserA and UserB can log in to HikVision admin page.

What am I missing here?
Any ideas?

hmmm I get a 404 error page "Can't locate document: /cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi"

Yes.
http://guest:password@192.168.1.64/ISAPI/Streaming/channels/101/picture
That gave me an image in Firefox.

This is very strange.. I do the exact setup and in firefox I try the link that you posted.
There is a popup window that prompts for credentials:

"http://192.168.1.x is requesting your username and password. The site says: “IP Camera(80281)”"

I enter the credentials and it pops up again and I do it again until it gives me a permission error.

In Security>Authentication and RTSP-WEB Authentication I tried with both "digest" and "digest/basic".

Also, updated firmware, just in case.

Thanks for the detailed response anyway.

I done everything you said but this drives me crazy. The popup keeps prompting for credentials untill it fails with
401 error Unauthorized.

If on this same popup I enter the admin credentials I get the picture.
Also, I am able to login to the back end with the guest account (which means that the guest credentials are correct).

One more strange clue:
In any browser (e.g. explorer, firefox, chrome) if I first login using the login screen and open a new tab and navigate to
http://guest:password@192.168.1.x/Streaming/channels/1/picture
or to
http://192.168.1.x/ISAPI/Streaming/channels/101/picture
it works! :-/
