Today we have a review of the IP8131 a 1MP cube camera from Vivotek. Although this camera is at the lower end of Vivotek's cameras we were still very impressed.

Let’s look at some of this camera's features. It is 1MP cube camera that can shoot 1280 x 800 and using its IR cut filter and IR LEDS for day night functionality it can see up to 6 meters at 0.001 LUX. This camera is ONVIF compliant, has two-way audio and has on-board storage options via a SD card slot. The IP8131 does not use Power over Ethernet. This compact camera measures at 80mm wide and high and 46mm thick.

This compact cube camera from Vivotek is very good quality for a 1MP camera. This camera would fit into any office or home environment very well because of its size and design. Why not take a look at our recent unboxing video:

This camera comes with a simple-to-use mount that allows for quick and easy installation and positioning of the camera. Simply attach the mount to the camera by screwing it on until tight, then using two screws (provided with the camera) mount to the wall or ceiling. Below we have pictures of the mount and it attached to the camera.

A great method to record this camera would be using Vivotek own FREE ST7501 recording software, which will allow you to record up to 32 channels using Vivotek cameras. This software also comes with applications for your IOS and Android devices.

To read more about ST7501 software or read our other Vivotek camera reviews, please visit the Vivotek Forum.

As you may be familiar with by now, Vivoteks online web client is a great application that allows you to live view the camera, configure all of the cameras settings, take snapshots and many other features. Below is a screenshot of this camera in live view mode using the web client.

We also set this camera up with and recorded a lot of footage using our QNAP VioStor which proved to be a great solution. As mentioned earlier this camera is ONVIF compliant which means it will work with most 3rd party systems. Below is a snapshot we took using the QNAP:

We also captured some sample footage of this camera:

Once again, I feel that Vivotek have brought us another great quality camera, with top marks for size, price and great functionality.

This camera would be ideal for an office or home environment and would fit into any existing camera network (either with Vivotek cameras or cameras from a different manufacturer) or could be used to start an entirely new network.

If you’re looking for a well-priced, compact cube camera that has day/night functionality from a leading manufacture, then this is the camera for you.
