Today we are reviewing the Vivotek PD8136 1MP Pan/Tilt Indoor Dome IP Camera. We are huge fans of their products and the PD8136 has really impressed us!

Let’s look at some of this cameras features. This is a 1MP Pan/Tilt dome camera that can shoot 30fps at 1280 x 800 and has a viewing angle of 56 degrees. This camera can pan 360 degrees and tilt 80 degrees. However, it should be noted that the pan does run to a stop position and then you will need to rotate back in the other direction. It also deals with low light situations very well, as it is able to see at a minimum illumination of 0.47 lux. There is on-board storage with this camera via an SD card slot, it is ONVIF compliant and it uses PoE (preferred method of 95% of our customers). This compact camera measures at only 120mm in diameter and 55mm in height.

This Pan/Tilt camera from Vivotek is very good both in quality and functionality. It is also a compact dome that fits seamlessly into any environment and afford you excellent coverage using it’s PT (Pan/Tilt). Below we have an unboxing video of the camera.

This camera has a very simple and clever design to it. As it uses PoE, it only has a ‘Pig tail’ style cable coming from the rear of the camera. To mount the camera to a wall or ceiling, Vivotek has devised a clever mount which consists of two parts, one that attaches to the camera and one that mounts to your wall or ceiling. The two pieces slide together and can be secured with an additional screw. Below we have images of the mounting components.

A great solution for this camera would be to couple it with Vivotek's own FREE ST7501 recording software, which allows users to record up to 32 channels using Vivotek cameras. This software also comes with applications for your IOS and Android devices.

To read more about the ST7501 software and other Vivotek cameras please visit our Vivotek forum.

As with all Vivotek cameras, there is a great web client that we can use to live view the camera, configure the settings, take control of the PT (Pan/Tilt) and take snapshots, as well as many other features. Below is what the camera looks like in the web client in live view mode.

We also recorded a lot of our footage for this camera using our QNAP VioStor which was also a great solution should you wish to add this camera to a pre-existing network. This camera is ONVIF compliant which means it can work with many 3rd party systems. Below is a snapshot taken using the QNAP Viostor.

We also captured some sample footage of this camera:

In conclusion I feel this is another great camera from Vivotek that offers good quality and capability at a competitive price. This camera would fit into any existing camera network, either with other Vivotek cameras or cameras from different manufactures as it is a ONVIF compliant. This camera would be best suited to a medium-size busy office environment, where it’s Pan/Tilt functionality would be used best. If you are looking for a good quality compact dome camera with the extra functionality at a great price then this is the camera for you.
