Hi,
I'm currently using an NVR with some Hikvision cameras...working perfectly :). For security reasons, i would like to install a "VPN router".
What would be the implications on remote viewing (with my smartphone) my cameras?

Hi,
VPNs are fairly complex to set up:
Hikvision 2CD3145 - Remote configuration impossible

See point 11:
HikVision - Top Thirty Tips

If you still want to tackle it, I would recommend a Synology router solution.
Synology Router Manager │ Best-in-Class Operating System for Routers | Synology Inc.

And their VPN:
VPN Plus │ Synology Router Manager | Synology Inc.

To access home and your CCTV from elsewhere, you will need VPN access permission from your remote PC/phone.
e.g. via their App - Mobile Apps - Knowledge Base | Synology Inc.

Your playback will be MUCH better, but you will lose notifications.
I use a raspberry pi and have wiregaurds installed
So on HikConnect I simply add the IP address of the NVR, remote playback is butter smooth !!! I can even playback in 8x speed, I don't think you can do that normally ( at least not in any manner that is usable. )
