The good news is this camera did the job well. If you are used to setting up things like routers this was reasonably straightforward. You set the camera up initially on ethernet, configure the wifi and re-power to run via wifi. The web pages of the camera allow you to view video, and then fairly comprehensively set up the camera. You need a sd card (eg 32GB, another amazon purchase) to record video. So, what were the niggles:
There were a few tricks not documented the eyespy support resolved for me (support, btw, was outstanding - knowledgable and responsive). Examples: stream 2 is recorded so you set this up with the resolution you want to record. Port numbers (used for mapping into the camera from the wan) need to be around the 8170 region (use their default).
I had no issues with wifi coverage testing outdoors and a couple of indoor locations.
In the broader arena my objective was successfuly met but a pain in the proverbial. I had to rewire the tel system (to improve dsl and get sms messages from the burglar alarm), I had to purchase a new gateway as the prior (3yr old) system didn't map multiple internal web servers, and had to fiddle with settings for days. Finally I can successfuly monitor the camera and view video stored on the camera from outside the house, PC's work fine but iphone/ipads are limited in their video capability and I've not yet solved how to view HD quality video on an iphone.
So, in summary, for the price an outstanding piece of kit (there is nothing else out their offering HD at this price), with great support but don't underestimate the pain of setting remotely accessed home controls. Note eyespy offer a cloud-based monitoring service which I may have used if it made the above a no-brainer click-install (it requires setting up so I didnt bother).
I was fearful at first having to jump through hoops setting up port forwarding etc (based on previous experience) but as I have recently changed to a BT Infinity Home Hub 3 it was all really very easy as I just followed the video tutorial that enabled me to register the camera with my account - so that it all set up for remote reviewing within a few minutes.
That said, from the brief conversation I had with the Eyespy 247 support chaps they mentioned they have port forwarding guides for a lot of routers specially designed to work with their cameras so can't imagine it would be too problematic to get them working with other routers that don't support their registration system.
As for the camera itself, the picture quality is quite impressive (even if it's not full HD). But at 720p resolution miles better than that standard CMOS sensor cameras I have used in the past so definitely a step up - which I imagine will become the norm as I can't see anyone wanting to buy a non HD camera really if you can get one for about the same price.
The wireless reach is also very good since it has wifi N support and seems to be holding up very well though my thick walls and at a distance of about 20 metres from the router, so again very impressed with that.
I haven't as yet played with recording to an SD card, though that's next on the list. Mind you I haven't really needed to as the Eyespy 247 online system seems to handle all my recordings just fine and I can play them back from anywhere - which is a nice touch too.
All in all, so far very pleased with the buy.

Unfortunately my dlink router didn't have the UPnP function needed to enable me to use the camera register function in the HDSD to get the camera working with my eyespy247 account but the support chaps at eyespy held my hand through port forwarding and DDNS (you learn something new everyday).
Once everything was working I was able to view the camera remotely fine and access it via eyespy's web system as well as check on recordings from lots of different places - so all good.
The camera itself is very good in most respects with superb video quality and lots of features (most of which I will probably never use).
It connected first time over wireless once I saw the video of how to get it to work over my wifi network and seems to work surprisingly well - it's about 70 metres from my router and so far has not dropped the connection yet.
The night time video quality is quite good too. In the total darkness of my back yard I was surprised by just how much detail I could still pick up.
The only gripe I have so far is with their desktop recording software - which I think could do with some overhaul as it locked up my computer a few times. That said, I don't think I'll need to use it now that I know I can look at the video from my camera from any web browser and eyespy's web recording system will take care of everything else.
