Hikvision cameras 12/16 MP

@JB1970
This Hikvision DS-2CD2H166g3-IS2UY/SL that you've been testing, does it have the Smart Hybrid Light feature ?
With it having a white strobe light I've been trying to find out but I'm getting mixed information online.
The Hikvision data sheet says smart hybrid light in the title at the top but in the specifications under Supplement Light Type it only says IR and doesn't say + White Light.
Would be grateful if you could confirm either way

No it’s just IR so no Hybrid light. Not sure why they would make that error on the datasheet title. In the part number the ‘6’ before ‘G3’ says that’s it’s Darkfighter (would be ‘7’ for ColorVu if it was Smart Hybrid). Likewise it would be ‘LIS2UY’ if it had both lights (L for white light, I for infrared)

Hi @JB1970 , after the initial discoveries, did you ever bother looking at night time performance?
Your comment about reading reg plate of moving car at distance was intriguing. But if night time 12/16mp performance (due to sensor size) is much worse than 8mp cam, no point.

I never got around to checking but I'm glad of the reminder....I just checked it and hadn't realised I'd left the 'scene modes' on their default settings. As I've got node-red switching those modes based on illumination, that camera is awful on a night for motion blur (but that's because the default 'Low Illumination' scene that it's being switched to has exposure at 1/6 sec!) I'll adjust and comment back

@dazulrich Initial results not great...

I have the 16MP model in a similar position to an old 2387G2 (8MP ColorVu with 1/1.2" sensor). Using the same shutter, gain and noise reduction settings, the 2387 is much clearer image at those settings. However:
  • I've not had time to tweak the settings properly, I've initially just dumped the same ones in from the other camera which was never going to give optimum results. I'm sure I could get better results if I have a late night and tweak settings live.
  • I have a couple of low power lights that keep the camera in colour. The 16MP model is strictly speaking a 'powered by Darkfighter' not a 'ColorVu' despite its dual illumination (DS-2CD23166).
  • Night time capture of plates is going to be unachievable as in colour the camera will be at 1/50s exposure for my location. I could run a much shorter exposure time if I switch to mono and IR but then IR reflection (rather than motion blur) will be the issue.
I got the 16MP to try out as I was interested to see how it performed but in all honesty at this point I wouldn't buy more for a couple of reasons:
  • running the camera in a lower resolution just crops from the 16MP image massively reducing the FOV. Very early G1 8MP cameras did this on early firmware.
  • AcuSeek does not work on current firmware. Hikvision have said it will be resolved by firmware update but I wouldn't trust any date they give for that (slated as Q3)

I have the possibility of reading plates in the night mode of the camera.
At a distance of 6 - 8 meters.When the car is parked. Not in motion.I have an additional IR reflector, and I turn it off on the camera.The IR reflector is connected to the 220 volt current and is placed at a height of 3 meters.
When the IR light on the camera is turned on, there is a glare from the license plates.
With the additional IR reflector, there is no glare from the license plates and the numbers are visible.The camera is 4 MP/G3 series.

To add my experience. On the camera iDS-2CD5347G2/V-XS, you can read license plates from the car even when the IR light on the camera is turned on. You only need to reduce the "illumination" option in the "image" settings. I think this camera has a different IR light or sees the IR light from the camera differently.
