Hi all,
I’m experiencing a consistent playback issue in Hik-Connect and I’m trying to determine whether this is app-related or NVR-related. I’ve done several controlled tests and can reliably reproduce the problem.
System details
NVR:
Model: DS-7616NXI-I2/S
Firmware: V4.62.255
Mobile device:
Android version: 16
One UI version: 8.5
App:
Hik-Connect version: 6.12.500.0608
Issue description:
Live view works normally, and recorded footage plays correctly. However, playback controls are broken after the first clip is opened:
The first clip opened after launching the app plays normally. Any subsequent clip shows a frozen playback timeline. Playback timer remains stuck at 0:00. The scrubber/timeline does not move. Attempting to scrub the timeline causes the playback to jump back to the start of the clip. Video stream itself continues playing normally despite broken timeline controls
Reproduction steps (100% consistent)
Fully close Hik-Connect
Reopen the app
Open any recorded clip → playback works correctly (timeline + timer OK)
Exit playback
Open any other recorded clip → issue occurs:
timeline frozen at 0:00
scrubbing fails and resets to start
Key observation
It does NOT matter which clip is opened first. The first playback session after launching the app always works. All subsequent playback sessions fail until the app is completely closed and reopened
Tests performed
Confirmed issue occurs across multiple clips and cameras.
Confirmed recordings are valid (first clip always plays correctly).
Issue persists regardless of channel or time of recording
Restarting the app restores functionality for exactly one clip again.
Preliminary conclusion
This strongly suggests a Hik-Connect playback session/state handling bug, where subsequent playback sessions fail to properly initialize timeline metadata or reuse stale playback state. It appears more likely to be: App-side regression (high probability), or
Android 16 / One UI 8.5 compatibility issue
rather than an NVR or recording fault.
If anyone else has seen this behavior or has a workaround (other than force-closing the app between every clip), I’d really appreciate feedback.
Thanks
