Hi all

New to the forum and relatively new to IP Cams, NVRs etc, but familiar with IT, building PCs, basic electronic principles etc. Here’s the thing… I’ve bought an NVR - Hikvision DS-7600NI-E2/8P/A minus the original case and without its PSU.

I plan to house it in a case with bigger, slower fans so as to run it coolly and quietly in our front room, as I gather from others on this forum that Hik NVRs are not the quietest.

So basically, first, I need to verify that I haven’t bought a pig in a poke and need to test it applying 12V to the 6 pin Molex on the main board with the correct polarity before I start the project proper (pic 1).

I see that there’s also a 2 pin, white, 52V (pic 2) connector on the PoE port board, but I understand that the NVR will run OK without 52V for testing purposes (I’m not testing the PoE aspect right now).

I can’t see any +- polarity marks on the PCB for either connector and I couldn’t find the pinout info I need on this site, so I did some testing with the meter. Pomeroy left some info on the topic here https://tinyurl.com/k77jydz5 (most appreciated) but not quite enough. So, right now I’m suffering from a lack of PSU to test the black/yellow wires’ polarity sadly.

Upon testing, I found that there was 0Ω between all 3 pins on the clip side of the Molex and in turn, 0Ω between these and the PCB mounting pillar earths. I then checked between these 3 pins and the two pins on the 52V connector. I found there was also 0Ω from the 3 pins to the one of the pins (one nearest the corner of the PoE board) of the 52V connector.

I also tested and found 0Ω between the other 3 remaining Molex pins (opposite side to clip)

To sum up then, by elimination, it looks a lot like polarities are as follows:

- 3 pins on the clip side of the Molex (all connected together i.e. paralleled) – Negative (earth) )
- 1 pin on the 52V connector – Negative (earth) ) All 3, same potential (so earth)
- All earth contacts on PCB - – Negative (earth) )

- 3 remaining Molex pins opposite side to clip (connected together i.e. paralleled) – Positive +12V

I know the convention for PCs is that yellow wires are +12V and black are Negative 0V but I’m not 100% sure that NVR PSUs follow the same colour convention.

Just wondering if anyone knows categorically that the NVR PSU 6 pin Molex 12V plug is yellow for +12V wires and black for 0V (Neg) wires. Any thoughts welcome, long winded for a first post I know, but I really don’t want to fry my board : - )

Thank you.
