Questions about buying a new M series NVR and firmwares?

I'm currently using an older K series NVR alongside my DVR as I transition more of my sites cameras to IP (about 20 cameras total, only 4 IP so far)

Looks like I'm gonna need a new NVR, and a local retailer in my city (Toronto) has a few hikvision models available. At this point I'm trying to decide on the model I'll get but I'm leaning towards an xxNI-M series just due to it being more recent as well as high bandwidth. They also have nxi-k but M seems better if I mainly get acusense cameras

Reading on here alot lately but trying to figure out something,-

1. if I get an NI-M NVR , along with the G2 cameras I have, for example my 2cd2387g2-lsu, will I have access to the 'smart search' feature on web/ivms/hikconnect, where I can draw lines and zones on playback to filter things after the fact. (On my current older K NVR I see the feature in my webUI, but drawing the box on playback seems to do nothing)

2. I've seen mention about certain firmwares affecting smart search, eg. The 5.7.17+ making it so smart search doesn't work for regular motion? But am I right that human and vehicle intelligent search still will work? Could I downgrade to get that feature back?

3. Is there any thing else I should know about still-present issues between M series firmware versions/camera versions, in terms of features not working right. No idea what firmware the stores NVR comes with and maybe I could be strategic on what versions I use

1 & 2 are really related questions. Yes you will still have smart search but it will only find Human Vehicle targets if the cameras are up to date (newer than 5.7.15). Once you filter Human and/or vehicle for your events, that’s all that will be available for smart search.

A VPro NVR might be appropriate if all of your cameras are AcuSense capable, as the searching is better. In UK we are limited to the K and I variants of the VPro but it appears that in some markets an M version is also available.

Thanks for the confirmation on first points

I see the store does have NXI-I/Vpros only for the Vpro option.. reading your first impression post you mention bandwidth is lower than M, is that really the only drawback at this point vs M

Fwiw about 6 cams will have acusense but most are interiors where regular motion is fine

Would you say the Vpro even being an I vs M would be more worth it, with its advanced features. I only access my NVR via pc like ivms or hikconnect, so I'd want all the features accessible without local NVR screen access

I'm occasionally having an issue with mine needing a reboot/power cycle. I'll get a 'no resource' error as if I've ran out of decoding resources but I might only be trying to play back a single camera (well within limits). Power cycle resolves it but it's not ideal. It could of course be something specific in my setup.

The benefit of the VPro NXI is the AcuSeek search facility. One major annoyance is that the I series V-Pro NXI has two 'engines' and AcuSeek must be used for one if AcuSearch is used for the other. That leaves no engine to enable AcuSense for the non AcuSense cameras (something that is available on all other NXI models)

All of the search features are available using Hik-Connect. Human, Vehicle filtering for AcuSense cameras, AcuSeek search terms for compatible AcuSense cameras can be typed, or a voice prompt used. It's surprisingly good at identifying vehicles 'white Volkswagen Golf' or 'Black Porsche' for instance.

Thats pretty cool. Tho Not sure if I'd be using the acuseek itself much at my location, I feel like I'd be more inclined to use the option where you can draw search lines or boxes lol. Hard to say until I try it

But alot of my cameras are currently on a DVR, and I was able to add them to my K NVR, by individual channels using hikvision protocol, and seemed to stream through fine

If I were to get an acusense NVR, would I be able to add some channels from my old DVR to the new NVR and then set one of the engines so that my DVR camera streams could have MD 2.0 or perimeters functions

If I only had motion 2.0 enabled for non acusense camera streams, would that be enough to do smart searching on those channels where I draw custom search zones? Or does perimeter engine need to be running to use that feature

Hey so just a follow-up on this question JB incase you can advise

I managed to figure out how to get VCA search working on my old K NVR (didn't have the save VCA option on as I never checked the NVR monitor before)

So now that I've turned it on and played with VCA search, I'm finding that my 2cd2387g2-lu, which has latest 5.7.23 firmware, I'm able to do VCA searching on that channel, but I'm also able to do a motion detection drawing on the screen and it's returning results in ivms that are aswell just motion, not humans nor vehicles going in that drawn area. My motion detection event settings on camera do have human\vehicle checked, and hik connect only sends notifications for humans and cars still

I thought the new camera firmware wouldn't allow me to get motion only results on VCA search, is it possible my NVR being older (firmware 4.72) has something to do with it? Would getting a new M series on v5 firmware affect these results?

Also, on a side note, can I do these searches on hikconnect, or is it just on UI/ivms

My finding is that a search where I draw a line or box retrospectively, only returns humans and /or vehicles. However I'm not using iVMS, just the local UI to perform the search. @apashi may know for sure as he's done a lot of testing with various firmwares since reporting it. I've not noticed any return to the old behaviour with 5.7.23.

Possibly, but it was always the updated camera firmware that prevented the results being given - dropping to 5.7.15 returned the feature.

Smart Search is available during playback on Hik-Connect but again is only showing results for Human/Vehicle. Kind of pointless IMHO as it's easier to filter to Event (all), Human, or Vehicle, as doing that skips normal playback (with smart search you need to manually drag to the marker)

Yea,.it works the same on my local UI smart search. On ivms when I set the 'sensitivity' of VCA search to max I get all the same results, which seem to include several things that were only motion where it didn't detect a human/vehicle

Edit: I'll say this is only when I do motion detection option under vca search.. when I select line cross or Intrusion, I only get results of detected humans vehicles (as shown by the green box around them)

On camera I have motion human/vehicle set, as well as an intrusion rule on whole screen with human, vehicle and 'other' checked. (Not sure what other means)

with human, vehicle and 'other' checked.
I've maybe not used 'other'. Some new camera firmware for other models now has 'animal' along with 'other' (just need them to add vegetable and mineral for completeness)

Can I downgrade to 5.7.15 again? I found that one on a hikviison europe portal but im in North america so not sure if it would work or be compatible
